Il contributo mostra come da sempre l’attività pastorale e catechistica della Chiesa è stata accompagnata dalla richiesta di orientamenti da parte degli operatori pastorali e dei catechisti. La risposta è venuta prima a livello di singoli, teologi o vescovi; successivamente, già prima della conclusione del Vaticano II, a livello di Conferenze Episcopali, attraverso veri e propri direttori. Significativi, al riguardo, risultano quelli degli episcopati francese e olandese (1964). Da parte sua il Concilio ha rinunciato all’idea di un catechismo universale e ha stabilito la redazione di un direttorio catechistico per tutta la Chiesa. Promulgato nel 1971, è stato sostituito da un testo analogo nel 1997, ed ora, nel 2020, da un terzo documento. This article shows how the pastoral and catechetical activity of the Church has always been accompanied by the request for orientations on the part of the pastoral workers and catechists. The response came first at the level of individuals, from theologians or bishops; subsequently, even before the conclusion of Vatican II, at the level of the Episcopal Conferences, through the respective Directories. In this regard, the orientations of the French and Dutch episcopal Conferences (1964) are indeed significant. On its part, the Second Vatican Council renounced the idea of a universal catechism and established instead the drafting of a catechetical Directory for the whole Church. Promulgated in 1971, it was replaced by a similar text in 1997, and now, in 2020, by a third document.
