Un esame attento dei Vangeli sinottici rivela che Gesù di Nazaret visse e manifestò una fede in Dio del tutto omogenea con quella del popolo della Prima alleanza. Il Dio di Gesù è il Creatore e “Signore”, ma altresì “Padre”, delle Scritture e della pietà giudaica. La sua fede presenta ambedue le dimensioni della fede veterotestamentaria: la fedeltà a Dio e la piena fiducia in lui. Sia nelle parole, che manifestano la sua mens, sia nel compimento della sua missione, sia ultimamente nel sostenere la prova suprema, Gesù è il «giusto» incondizionatamente fedele a Dio e alla sua volontà. Al tempo stesso, egli nutre una incrollabile fiducia in Dio, grazie alla quale è assolutamente certo di essere da lui riscattato e liberato.

A thorough exanimation of the Synoptic Gospels shows that Jesus of Nazareth revealed in his life a faith quite homogeneous to the faith of the people of the First Testament. The God of Jesus is the Creator and “Lord”, but also the “Father” of the Scriptures and of the Jewish piousness. His faith presents both the dimensions of the biblical faith: the faithfulness to God and the full confidence in Him. In the words, which reveal his thinking, and in the fulfillment of his mission, till when he sustained the last trial, Jesus is the “just” faithful to God and to His will without compromise. At the same time, he nourishes an unshakeable confidence in God, thanks to which he was absolutely sure to be revenged and saved from Him.
