Questo articolo intende ricostruire l’idea di Università di Joseph Ratzinger/Benedetto XVI attraverso i suoi interventi pubblici e i loro presupposti teologici e antropologicofilosofici. Centrale è il plesso ragione-verità-fede, che ha il suo perno nell’allargamento della ragione rispetto al riduttivismo di matrice positivistica e utilitaristica. La ragione si apre alla verità che trascende il dato di fatto e alla fede, per affrontare le domande ultime della vita, come accadde alle origini dell’Università, luogo di incontro della ragione greca con la fede e il pensiero cristiani. Questo allargamento della ragione è il principio vivente normativo di fronte alla moderna autoriduzione che provoca la frammentazione del sapere e l’esclusione della questione antropologica dall’Università. In questo contesto Benedetto XVI rilancia l’ethos della scientificità nella volontà di obbedire alla verità. In ciò la ragione si rivela amore che nutre l’agire educativo dei professori nell’Università.

This paper aims to recreate Joseph Ratzinger/Benedict XVI’s idea of a University by referring to his public speeches and their theological and anthropological-philosophical premises. Central is the reason-truth-faith plexus, which has its pivot in the broadening of reason as opposed to reductivism of a positivistic and utilitarian matrix. Reason opens up to the truth that transcends the fact and to faith, in order to address the ultimate questions of life, as it happened at the origins of Universities, when Greek reason encountered Christian faith and thought. This enlargement of reason is the living normative principle in the face of modern self-reduction that causes the fragmentation of knowledge and the exclusion of the anthropological question from the University. In this context Benedict XVI reinforces the scientific ethos in the will to obey truth. In this, reason reveals itself as the love that nourishes the educational actions of University professors.
