Gli Stromateis di Clemente Alessandrino costituiscono una miniera di citazioni di opere della letteratura greca. Tra esse si segnalano i versi tratti dalle commedie attiche. Secondo il suo approccio positivo alla paideia greca, considerata una sorta di “terzo testamento” e, comunque, un’autentica praeparatio evangelica, Clemente Alessandrino mostra una buona conoscenza della letteratura comica e ne apprezza la visione pedagogica e morale. Nell’articolo si riportano le testimonianze di queste opere comiche contenute negli Stromateis, se ne esamina il significato nell’insieme dell’opera clementina e si tenta di ricavare qualche informazione sulla storia di questo genere.

The treatise entitled Stromateis of Clement of Alexandria is a treasure of quotations drawn from many ancient Greek works. Among these quotations, lines of the ancient Greek comedies are several. Indeed, Clement of Alexandria appreciates the Greek culture, its paideia, that he considers a sort of praeparatio evangelica. Accordingly, he praises the pedagogical and moral vision that he discovers in Greek writers’ plays. The author reports these quotations that we read in Clement’ s Stromateis and shows how their meaning is consistent with the thought of this Alexandrian Church Father. Moreover, the author tries to recover some pieces of information on the literary genre “comedy” in ancient Greece.
